Well it has been quite a roller coaster ride over the last couple of weeks in a political sense when it comes to the myriad of issues that have and continue to plague the building industry at the moment. What I am particularly pleased about is the fact that the AIB not only continues to be invited to the table at the Building Ministers Forum (BMF) as well as other forums, but consulted on our views across many issues.

I have been working hard with National President, David Burnell in visiting state and territory regulators as well as relevant Ministers and importantly, keeping the lines of communication open with Federal Minister for Industry, Science & Technology Karen Andrews. The AIB is generally pleased with the outcomes of the last BMF and sees that the bolstering of the resources at the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) to support a greater buy in from states and territories with the implementation of the Shergold Weir Report is a good step.

The 24 recommendations in the report have not surprisingly gained more traction in some states than others and the advent of the ramping up of coordination work of the ABCB in this area should be seen as a positive step forward.

I wanted to also take this opportunity to remind you that as a member of the Australian Construction Industry Forum (ACIF), we continue to work hard with this body to develop public comment/views that are often picked by media both domestically as well as internationally. I am also working with the team from ACIF to look at more targeted comment quotes in media releases from member groups such as the AIB that are relevant to the particular subject matter. We have a long history with ACIF and look forward to working with them further in refining our work together.

A reminder that tickets for both Constructing Our World as well as the National Professional Excellence in Building Awards are now on sale.

Both these events promise a great opportunity to network with your colleagues, be a part of a significant international conference and help celebrate the best of the best from around the country and in South East Asia when it comes to professional building excellence.

Have a great weekend ahead everyone.
