LEADERS IN CONSTRUCTION ANNOUNCED BY THE AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF BUILDING
The South Australian Chapter of the Australian Institute of Building (AIB) last night (Friday 4 May 2018) announced the Professional Excellence in Building Awards for 2018.
At a sold out dinner presentation, guests (including His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le, Governor of South Australia) heard how the judging panel was at times ‘immediately impressed’ with the quality of many of the submissions.
“A number of projects were challenged during their construction last year with periods of unusually high rain fall causing significant delays with early works” said Jury Chair Jeremy Whitehead.
“All the projects entered however displayed a very high level of finished quality and attention to detail. The submissions showcased many high calibre team leaders and with help from their teams, achieved a high level of skill and competence in the execution of the building process, contractual and contractor management and most importantly, people management.
The projects submitted contributed significantly to benefit the broader community – from large multi residential buildings to upgrading a major public sporting facility, expanding schools, Universities and hospitals, to unique tourist icons such as the Monarto Zoo -360 Lions Experience or the new d’Arenberg – The Cube. All of which deliver benefits to the South Australian economy and the community in general” said Jeremy.
AIB National President, Paul Heather said “The Awards recognise the contribution and leadership shown by individuals to the successful completion of a construction project, reinforcing that the success of any building firm can be attributed to those responsible for construction projects”
The judging criterion for the Awards weights the contribution of individuals and the challenges that they face. It is based on the complexity of the project in its construction phase as opposed to the characteristics of the completed structure.
The Australian Institute of Building went on to congratulate the 2018 SA Building Professional of the Year, Paul Melville from Hansen Yunken for his work on Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) Redevelopment Project
Winners of Professional Excellence Awards from the night will now go on to the National Awards to be held in Canberra on Saturday, 7 September.2018.
