Issues including non-conforming high-tensile bolts, electrical cable and asbestos in cement board has focussed attention on the need to  check whether construction products conform to the appropriate standards.

NATSPEC will assist the Australian construction industry mitigate the risk of non-conforming products by setting up a National Construction Products Register.  The NCPR, expected to be launched before the end of the year, will be a freely accessible system for consultants and contractors to determine if a proposed substitute product has evidence, checked by NATSPEC, of conformity to Australian Standards.
