ACT MBA members need your urgent support.

Canberra contractors have been written out of the capital’s largest ever construction project because of a refusal to do a deal with the CFMEU. An ACT Government/unionsACT MoU gives the union an effective veto over construction tenders. The CFMEU has invoked that veto in a deal with the head contractor, that sidelines Canberra contractors, to directly employ a union-friendly workforce.

The backroom deal came after the CFMEU failed to persuade a single civil contractor in the territory to sign their new pattern Enterprise Bargaining Agreement. The CFMEU promised severe consequences and delivered on that promise by excluding civil contractors from the $700m light rail project.

The MoU cedes extraordinary power over government tenders to the union movement.

MBA ACT has started an online and media campaign in an attempt to stop the deal which is due to be signed next week. We need your help to stop this. Please encourage members to get online and sign up. If left unchallenged, this sets an extraordinary precedent that denies fundamental freedoms in our industry.
